Mining operations in Nigeria are set for a significant Change as the Federal government moves to implement satellite technology to monitor activities across the sector. After the Federal Executive council meeting, the Minister for Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, announced in Abuja that ₦2.5 billion has been approved by the government to purchase satellite equipment.
This initiative aims to enhance oversight, restrict illegal mining, and improve resource management. The amount will be use to procure satellite equipment and gadgets that will be installed in strategic places all over the country. According to the Minister, he said that, Nigeria is so vast, so to police every inch of a large territory is almost impossible, so what we have to do is to introduce technological gadgets that can enable us to see what’s going on even in the remotest parts of the country.
